“I was diagnosed with kidney failure in July 2007. This was caused by bilharzia that had been lying dormant in my system for a number of years.
I ended up in hospital, and was told that I would need to have a transplant to be able to live and carry on with my life. I started dialysis five months ago, which replaces the function of my kidneys. I will be on dialysis until the day that I have a transplant, which could happen as soon as next month, but which could also take up to two years.”
This is why Dave’s friends have created the Dave Tippett Transplant Fund to raise money towards the medical bills that are piling up for his chronic medication. Medical aid only pays a percentage of the cost of this vital medication, due to medical and pharmaceutical regulations.
